Press your palm against the sand and look closely at the sand on your hand to find small grains in the shape of stars. They are actually the shells of foraminifera attached to seaweed. You cannot take them home with you, but you can buy key chains containing star-shaped sand at souvenir shops. Watching the beautiful sunset from the pier extending out to sea

Located on the west side of TaketomiIsland, the pier stretches straight out to the sea, was built in 1938, and was used as a landing place for fishermen to go to and from Iriomote Island. Because it stretches toward the west, it is known as a famous place for viewing the wonderful sunset. If you visit in the evening, you can see a beautiful sunset with a different expression depending on the day. Even after the sun has set, the time spent looking at the reddish sky for a while is exceptional. This is a privilege that only guests can enjoy.

In the season, you can also see islanders who come to gather seafood such as Arsa and Mozuku, and feel close to their daily life.
TaketomiIsland and parts of Taketomi Town and Ishigaki Island were the first places in Japan to be designated as "Starry Sky Protection Zones". The starry sky seen from the West Pier at night is truly spectacular.

Located in the west village of TaketomiIsland, "Akayama Park" is said to have been built by the fallen Heike warriors who drifted to Taketomi Island and built a castle. On a hill shaped like a turtle's shell is the symbolic "Nagomi Pagoda" of TaketomiIsland.

Nagomi's Pagoda, built in 1953 as a Property for communicating within the village, is 4.5 meters high, one of the tallest properties in the generally flat TaketomiIsland, and was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan in 2006. It used to be possible to climb to the top of the tower to get a panoramic view of the red-tiled houses in the village, but this is no longer possible due to danger prevention. However, it is possible to climb to the foot of the tower on top of the hill and feel the history and wind of the island.

Buffalo cart sightseeing on TaketomiIsland began more than 40 years ago, shortly after Okinawa's return to the mainland. It started when Guest/customers were being taken to and from the beach by a guest house. At that time, automobiles were rare on the island, and buffaloes were used to transport luggage and people. Buffaloes are gentle and cute, and are recommended for people with children. The buffalo travel around the island with a slower gait than people. TaketomiIsland retains the original landscape of old Okinawa.
