Local Guide FAQ
- What do you recommend (places, experiences, food) in the Aomori area?
NAMIKI is a handmade gelato store in Shichinohe Town. The gelato is excellent, made with fresh milk from Jersey cows raised on a local farm. The gelato is exceptional when eaten outside on the lawn while enjoying the pleasant breeze. Please visit with your family and friends.
- Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.
Restaurant "Daishoen" is located in Towada City. It is a traditional yakiniku restaurant. It is also the birthplace of Towada City's B gourmet "barayaki" (bara-yaki). You can enjoy the taste of the original barayaki at this old-fashioned restaurant.
- Where did you travel to last year and with whom?
I went on a trip to Otaru with a friend. Otaru Canal, the most popular sightseeing spot, was beautifully lit up in February as "Snow Light Path" event, and the canal lit by candlelight with lanterns made of snow was fantastic. Also, for a meal, I recommend the Kaisen-don, a bowl of rice topped with fresh seafood in abundance.
- What do you do on your days off?
I love shopping. Whenever I have free time, I visit shopping malls by myself and look around at sundries and clothes. Driving along the way is one of my pleasures, and if there is a beautiful view to be seen along the way, I stop the car and take a picture.
- Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?
Travel magazines. I always worry about what to eat and where to go when I go to an unfamiliar place, so I try to take a travel magazine with me. It is very useful because it has maps and information on all the stores.
