Hachinohe is one of the best port towns in Tohoku. To find the freshest seafood, head to a seafood restaurant along the coast. When you arrive, you will be surprised by the location. The restaurant stands on a rocky outcrop of land, offering a spectacular view of the ocean from its windows. Inside the restaurant is a spacious tatami room, so even those with children can enjoy their meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
We highly recommend the “Sashimi Set Meal,” which is packed with the bounty of the sea. With sashimi selections like crab, scallops, and shrimp, as well as raw oysters and sea squirt, you’ll be spoiled for choice.The “Raw Sea Urchin Rice Bowl” is another specialty. While both of these dishes are available only for a limited time each year—typically from May 15 through the end of August—there’s also a wide variety of year-round menu items, such as the “Seafood Rice Bowl” and “Grilled Fish Set Meal.” Among children, the “Iso Ramen (Salt-Flavored)” and “Hama Ramen (Soy Sauce-Flavored)” are particularly popular.

Next, we will visit a spot unique to Misawa City, the "City of the Sky," which is home to some of the best Aviation Properties in the country. With the theme of the sky and flight, there are many exciting exhibits and experiences for children. The aviation zone displays aircraft related to Aomori Prefecture, and the science zone offers hands-on exhibits. In the Science Zone, visitors can learn about the mechanism of flight through hands-on exhibits. Don't miss the Space Zone, which has a life-size model of the asteroid probe "Hayabusa2.
While there are height and weight restrictions depending on the experience, many are suitable even for small children, so visitors of all ages can enjoy themselves. The “Science Experiment Workshop,” which hosts science shows and workshops, is also popular. The free “Kids’ Square” near the entrance has a nursing room, so you can feel at ease even when visiting with a baby.

For dinner, we went to the buffet restaurant, which boasts a wide variety of dishes from local cuisine to apple desserts. Freshly prepared dishes such as grilled scallops with dashi broth and soy sauce and teppanyaki beef are waiting for you in the live kitchen. Children's chairs and tableware are also available.

Relax in the "floating hot spring" that reflects the four seasons.

The outdoor hot spring "Ukiyu" extends over a pond, giving you the feeling of floating in the water. The indoor baths, richly fragrant with the aroma of Aomori hiba (cypress), are not only "hot" but also "lukewarm," making it easy for children to take a bath. The luxurious bathing experience is exceptional.

After warming up with breakfast, head out for activities and sightseeing.

Experience the Aomori culture of living with horses on a seasonal horse-drawn carriage

The Nanbu region of Aomori Prefecture has long been famous for its horses. You can experience the culture of valuing horses by touring the park in a horse-drawn carriage. The carriage changes its appearance depending on the season, such as the "spring kotatsu carriage" in spring and the "stove carriage" in winter. Interacting with the horses is also a great fun for children.

Take out lunch at a popular coffee stand

Before sightseeing in Towada, you may want to grab a bite to eat. Unbreakable" is a coffee stand with a reputation for its delicious coffee and diverse food menu. The coffee is made from home-roasted beans from Hirozen City's "iro coffee" and brewed using a unique method. The rich aroma and flavor of the coffee is a cup of bliss.
The theme of the menu is "menu that goes well with coffee," and a wide variety of dishes are available, including bread handmade every morning, fried chicken, gapao rice, and pizza.

Eat, play, learn, and meet cute horses

With our takeout lunch in hand, we headed to a unique property found only in the Nanbu region, known for its fine horses. There are plenty of attractions and places to play, including “Komakko Ranch,” where you can experience horseback riding and feeding the horses; the “Shōtoku-kan” Horse Culture Museum; a plaza; and playground equipment.
First, take a lunch break on the lawn. Once you’ve had your fill, head over to the playground to enjoy the roller slide (for ages 6–12) and other attractions. The “U.m.a,” an 8.7-meter-tall horse-shaped slide, is the symbol of Komakko Land and a popular photo spot.When you’re tired from playing, take a break at the “Koryukan,” where you can rest or grab a bite to eat. The restrooms inside the building feature diaper-changing and nursing stations, so families with infants and toddlers can play here without any worries.

Art Experience to nurture children's sensitivity

Towada City is working on urban development through art. The art museum is a central spot in the city's efforts to create a town through art. The permanent collection was created especially for the museum and features many works by Japanese and international artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara, and Ron Mueck. Children are filled with curiosity as imaginative works of art appear one after another. Adults are encouraged to hold the hands of small children while they view the exhibits.
If you are afraid it will be difficult to see the exhibits in the museum with infants, go to the art plazas around the museum. The artworks by Yayoi Kusama include a polka dot world of pumpkins and girls, a fat house and a car, and a giant white ghost. You can also find street furniture on the government office and shopping streets that pass in front of the plaza.

After a long day of fun, take an early bath to work up a good sweat. A dip in the hot springs, which are said to be good for sore muscles, aching joints, and relieving fatigue, will help heal your tired body. If your children wake up early the next day, a refreshing morning bath is also recommended.

The Michinoku Matsuriya, where you can enjoy a show expressing Aomori's four seasons and the excitement of festivals, is the best part of the inn. Every night, a musical show of Aomori's four major festivals, including the Aomori Nebuta Festival, is held. Children and adults alike will find their hearts jumping to the rhythm of the music, as it is as realistic as an actual festival.

Umeja-don, a bowl of rice topped with seasonal seafood, is a popular breakfast dish. Feel free to top it with scallops, negitoro, squid, or any other ingredient of your choice, and you have your own kaisendon. It will be fun to see whose bowl of umeba-don tastes best with your family.

Take a walk in the park and say goodbye to the horses and ponies!

Before leaving the inn in the clear morning air, we went to a park. The children greeted the "Fureai Ranch" and "Pony House" with a fond farewell, saying "see you later. The store at Jawameguhiroba also has souvenirs with pony motifs, so why not commemorate your trip?

To wrap up your trip, head to the massive market where Aomori’s finest flavors come together. About 70 shops line the market, offering seafood landed at Hachinohe Port, freshly harvested vegetables and fruits, dried goods, and sweets.

Start with lunch at “Shichirin Village,” where you can grill ingredients purchased on-site over charcoal. Enjoy scallops, shrimp, squid, oysters, and other seasonal seafood and meats, cooked to your preferred doneness.It’s most efficient to pay the usage fee at the reception desk before purchasing ingredients inside the market. You’ll find fish you’ve never seen before, which will spark your children’s curiosity. When shopping, let the vendors know you plan to grill your purchases at Shichirin Village, and they’ll cut the ingredients for you so they’re easier to grill.

After enjoying the seafood, take a stroll around the market to pick out souvenirs. Since you can arrange for items to be shipped directly from the market, you can shop to your heart’s content without worry.
