Take home a taste of Okinawa: 5 recommended takeout gourmet spots in the Yomitan area
Takeout has seen increased demand during the recent COVID-19 pandemic, and restaurants are putting more effort into it. Let's enjoy local gourmet food by getting takeout while avoiding crowds. It's great to take back to your accommodation, or enjoy at a beach or park. Here are 5 popular takeout gourmet spots in the Yomitan area of Okinawa.
1Ryudonya "Poke Bowl"
Authentic flavors with many repeat American customers
A specialty shop for poke bowls, a local Hawaiian food. "Poke" means sliced fish in Hawaiian, and because there is a U.S. military base nearby, many Americans familiar with poke bowls frequent this shop. The "Ahi Poke Bowl" using tuna is a classic, but at Ryudonya, you can choose your main ingredient from local tuna, salmon, steamed shrimp, or chicken breast.
You can choose between white rice or brown rice for the base, and for an extra 50 yen, you can even swap it for island tofu, making it very healthy. Since you can choose each sauce and topping individually, you can enjoy a poke bowl with your favorite combination. In addition to poke bowls, Hawaiian side dishes like "Mochiko Fried Chicken" and "Garlic Shrimp" are also available for takeout.
2Gaishokuya Kujira "Bento"
Popular Western-style lunch with generous portions
A Western-style restaurant located right near Zanpa Misaki Park. It is well-regarded not only for its delicious food but also for the attentive hospitality of its staff. Driven by the desire to serve truly delicious food, they are thorough in using local vegetables whenever possible and making all their sauces from scratch without using pre-made products.
Their popular lunch is available for takeout as a bento box. You can choose your main dish from pasta, dry curry, or cheese risotto, and it comes with chicken, salad, bread, and soup. The pasta, in particular, is a satisfying 130g portion. Delivery may be available within Yomitan Village depending on the number of orders, so please inquire by phone.

3Asian Shokudo Shirokuma "Kumpa Rice"
Authentic Thai cuisine taught directly by a Thai chef
A Thai restaurant that strangely matches the atmosphere of Yomitan. You can enjoy authentic Thai cuisine from a chef who trained under a Thai master. The recommended dish, "Goong Pad Pong Curry," is a stir-fry of shrimp and egg with curry spices that pairs perfectly with Thai jasmine rice. The spicy kick of the curry sauce makes you crave the next bite.
All dishes are available for takeout, and the website features a detailed menu with photos, making it easy for those unfamiliar with Thai cuisine to choose. It is recommended to order takeout by phone in advance. While Thai food often has a reputation for being spicy, there are plenty of non-spicy options, so children and those who are not fond of spicy food can also enjoy it.

4Ishigama Pizza Sakaba Maruki "Pizza"
Exquisite pizza that starts with chopping firewood in front of the shop
A restaurant where the firewood stacked in front creates a wonderful atmosphere. The pizza, baked in the restaurant's pizza oven using broad-leaved trees from Okinawa Prefecture that are hand-split one by one with a specialized axe, is exquisite. While there are many pizza places, few likely split their firewood right in front of the shop.
Using pizza dough aged for over 48 hours and baked all at once in a large, handmade stone oven, the result is a pizza that is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. In addition to over 10 types of pizza, appetizers, à la carte dishes, and pasta are also available for takeout. You can enjoy authentic Italian cuisine outside the restaurant for a variety of occasions.

5Majun Rikka "Oju Set"
A bento box packed with a stylish combination of Okinawan ingredients and Western cuisine.
A house that appears as you go down a narrow alley. The restaurant, which was renovated from an old folk house that had been uninhabited for some time, has a modern atmosphere, skillfully coordinated while retaining old elements that evoke a sense of history. Many of the dishes combine local ingredients with Western cuisine, and there are quite a few menu items you can only eat here.
The take-out tiered food boxes (oju) can be ordered from one to four tiers, allowing you to choose the number of tiers according to the amount you need, and you can also adjust the contents, such as adding more Okinawan dishes. The containers are plastic, but if you return them after eating, the cost of the container will be refunded. If the restaurant is crowded, it may be difficult to accommodate take-out orders, so it is recommended to make a reservation by phone in advance.
