What are some recommendations for the Shimonoseki area?: I highly recommend the curry at a place called Yururi—it’s a work of art with its blend of spices, gentle flavor, and beautiful presentation! I always find myself getting completely absorbed in eating it(lol)
There are also surprisingly many shrines in the area. Sumiyoshi Shrine, which has deep ties to Yumoto Hot Spring in Nagato, features a massive camphor tree that’s considered a power spot. Plus, Japan’s oldest post office is right near RISONARE Shimonoseki, and there are plenty of retro Western-style buildings.

Since you live there, please share some hidden gems in the area that only locals know about.: At SIMONS COFFEE, you can choose from dozens of carefully selected coffee varieties, and if you’re having trouble deciding, the staff will be happy to make a recommendation. Their homemade cakes are also incredibly delicious, so it’s definitely a place I’d recommend visiting when you’re in the mood to relax.

Tell us about a memorable trip—who you went with and where you went.: Due to my previous job, I traveled frequently to Southeast Asia and Europe, and among those experiences, I still can’t forget the taste of the chocolate from a small shop run by a single mother in a French alleyway.
I actually visited the restaurant KEI—which became a hot topic thanks to the TV drama *Grand Maison Tokyo*—back when it was a two-star establishment, and I remember getting goosebumps at the movie theater when the film adaptation came out.

What do you do on your days off?: After work, I look up local spots and plan where to go on my next day off. I visit cake shops, parks, and libraries I’ve been wanting to check out, and I stay active by going for runs to refresh myself, watching baseball games, or taking day trips.

Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?: I generally believe that the lighter my luggage, the better, though I always carry my regular medications with me.
